"I met Bill Prenatt when he was involved in purchasing for Saga Foods, perhaps the most prestigious corporate caterer in the country.  Bill and I sat on opposite sides of the table at that time as we were their supplier for the St Louis and Kansas City markets.  I developed great respect for Bill in our dealings.  He drove a very hard bargain yet at the same time knew enough about his suppliers to know that getting great service meant that they had to be profitable too.  Although I didn’t know it would become possible, I hoped that one day Bill and I might work together.

In 1989 that opportunity presented itself when I heard that Bill might be available.  We had some very brief discussions and decided that our vision for the future was very much in sync and Bill joined our company, Allen Foods, Inc. as VP of Sales. 

At the time Bill came on board we were very much in transition from a fairly small family business to becoming a leader in the Food Service Distribution Industry.  Bill’s vast knowledge played a huge role in the changes that took us from a very entrepreneurial company, to one that maintained the previous culture, yet was able to grow and expand with careful planning and targeting.  Bill grew our sales organization to in excess of 100 sales people and numerous support personnel.  Yet the sales organization, despite its size, was highly motivated, focused, and productive.  Bill had a way of getting the most out of his people and in some cases more than they thought they were capable of. 

We sold our business in 2002 to US Foodservice.  We were proud to have Bill represent us and help guide us through compounding growth.   "
